For many businesses, the van is no longer simply a way of getting an engineer and their tools from A to B. It is a mobile workshop, storage facility, power source and workplace. That changes what a good vehicle conversion needs to deliver.
Modern fleets are balancing payload, productivity, safety, electrification, security and sustainability. The answer is increasingly an integrated mobile workspace rather than a collection of individual products.
From storage to a complete mobile workspace
Modul-System combines modular racking, flooring and bespoke vehicle conversions with technology and electrical solutions designed around the way mobile teams actually work.
Modul-Connect provides connectivity across the vehicle ecosystem, while e-Power and e-Inverter systems, DC-DC charging and e-Heaters address the practical power requirements of working on the road. EV solutions and solar energy extend that approach as fleets transition to electric vehicles.
Security is also part of the picture. Vehicle and tool security solutions, including alarms, sensors and asset tracking, help protect valuable equipment and provide greater visibility.
Designing around what really happens
One of the most interesting developments is Modul Workspace Intelligence. An AI camera system can record activity in a vehicle load space over a two-week period and produce a heatmap showing which areas are accessed most frequently. That can then be considered alongside job-card data.
The questions are practical: Are frequently used tools within easy reach? Is unnecessary equipment being carried? Is the layout creating avoidable movement? Could the workspace be simplified or weight reduced?
The first live deployment is underway with SGN, so Modul-System is not attaching productivity or financial figures to the trial at this stage. The principle is to test vehicle specifications against real-world use.
The EV workspace
Electrification changes more than the drivetrain. Engineers still need lighting, power, heating, charging and practical storage. Payload also becomes an important consideration. An integrated approach helps ensure the vehicle remains a productive workplace once it is on the road.
A vehicle that can evolve with the fleet
Modularity also matters when vehicles are replaced. A well-designed system can be adapted, transferred or reconfigured rather than treating every replacement vehicle as a completely new starting point.
